Azurite

Pixelated typeface and specimen

The goal of this project was to create a pixelated typeface and specimen displaying the tone of the font. I named my typeface Azurite inspired by the blue geode because of its rocky form. This also influenced my specimen design through my color palette and subject matter as I aimed to make the letters take the form of a geode. This typeface would function most likely as a display font.

I started the process of creating a pixelated typeface by just trying out many different ideas and slowly narrowing down which forms I liked and continuing from there. Then I started making rules that I could apply to each letterform that would help make it a cohesive set. I approached elements like the down strokes, crossbars, and letterform width with these rules in mind. Then I tweaked a lot of tiny details to really bring the entire typeface together.
